What Is This Passion for Tanning?

What Is This Passion for Tanning?

Tanned skin is very popular among gorgeous women. Everybody
wants to have attractive bronzed looks. Whether you are on
a date, a business trip or partying, a perfect tan can make
you the center of attraction.Having a tan is hot, and many teens and celebrities across
the country seem to agree. Throughout the 20th century and
indeed in the previous one, men and women hung out at the
pool or the beach, soaking up rays to get a tan. However,
with the advent of tanning beds you can enjoy the perfect
tan right in the privacy of your home or saloon.Tanning results from sunrays. The sun emits two types of
radiations - UVA and UVB. UVB radiation burns the upper
layers of skin (the epidermis) causing sunburns. UVA
radiation penetrates the lower layers (the dermis) and
causes tanning. However, a sunbath exposes our body to
unlimited and uncontrolled dose of ultraviolet radiations.
Studies have proved that an overdose of these radiations
can cause skin cancer.Sunbathing is a natural process of tanning, but it takes a
lot of time. The young generation is not fortunate enough
to have enough free time for sunbathing as earlier
generations had. Many of them may not have spare time
during the day at all.Tanning beds and tanning lotions have emerged to help them.
The tanning beds create a similar environment as under the
sun. Unlike sunrays, however, a tanning bed controls the
amount and nature of rays. This ensures that the harmful
effects of radiation are controlled. This is a great
advantage of tanning beds and you can enjoy the perfect tan
without exposing your skin to harmful radiation.Tanning beds control the amount and time of ultraviolet
radiation. A tanning bed programs the emission and
intensity of ultraviolet rays according to the recipient's
body. The tanning beds stop the radiations after the
stipulated time. In fact, a tanning bed is like a
controlled dose of ultraviolet rays.Tanning machines and tanning beds require a few precautions
because of the presence of ultraviolet light. Some of the
precautions required for tanning beds are:* You should always wear protective eye goggles while using
the tanning beds. Tanning saloons have the goggles
available for their clients. Never use a tanning bed
without the goggles because ultraviolet rays are more
harmful to the retina than to your skin.* Tanning Bed Exposure Timings: It is important to observe
the tanning bed timings. Over exposure at the tanning beds
could be harmful. Exposure times also vary with the brand
of bed. Make sure you are following the manufacturer's
guidelines. You can check other regulations with local
Department of Health & Human Services.Using a tanning bed is quite a simple activity. Just a few
sessions and you will find everyone asking about where you
have been to!Find out all you need to know about tanning beds. Are
they safe? Do they work? Why should you use tanning beds

Passion and Purpose

Passion and Purpose

Who are we, standing here on this planet, looking for a place to be? Are we the "forgotten ones" from a time gone by, a piece of pre-history perhaps, that lets itself unfold through the pages of time? Are we here all alone, or are we part of something bigger, larger perhaps than we could ever imagine? Aren't we like children after all, looking out into the Universe, wondering what this purpose of ours is all about? As children we had dozens of questions about this subject, didn't we? We wondered all the time where we were from and why we were here while we marveled about this place called Earth. There were grasshoppers, butterflies, leaping frogs, crawling snakes, annoying mosquitoes, dogs and cats, all sorts of strange things that we uncovered for ourselves each and every day. That was the period of our discovering this amazing environment in which we were enveloped. We wondered often then, looking up at the clouds, with a blade of grass stuck in our mouths: "who are we?" and "why are we here?"We're going to answer this and other similar questions in this article entitled about Passion & Purpose, from a therapist's point of view. Because, I believe, we each must have access to, and require these fundamentals to feel truly alive and valuable. Looking back at our respective childhoods we can see the Passion in every day of our life, manifesting itself here, there and everywhere as we set about on our path of discovery. Yes, we were young then, but oh so passionate we were too. Somewhere along the line that "flame" got diminished, not going out completely; but reduced to a small ember, which we need to fan now to return it to the bright blue flame, we once were. Fires do come and go; but Passion, that is forever. And what is Passion without Purpose? A car spinning its wheels perhaps? An electric motor running out of control, with nowhere to go? Passion needs Purpose to be attached to, to be drawn by, to be enlivened by and directed toward. If we have no purpose, then how can we have passion? Even if it's as simple as collecting stamps, we still need passion to get motivated. In the morning, when we rise, what gets us going? Yes, some will say "fear of getting fired" or "not making that next mortgage payment." But passion is there all the same, getting us excited about the day ahead, the challenges we face, the successes we aspire to. Yes, there are times when we'd rather stay in bed. But these are few and far between. Even a lazy person can be passionate about doing as little as possible. Maybe he or she are holding their breath for a new world record or to make a particular point. Does anyone remember John Lennon and Yoko Ono, in the early 70's, staying in bed in a Montreal Hotel for several days to bring attention to some important issue they were concerned with? How can we know what anyone is about without tapping into their passion or purpose? The passionate life is a worthy life. It's exciting, even breathtaking at times. We are so captivated by the things we love that we can even run into walls while thinking about them. Just like the "siren call" to Ulysses, we are drawn toward this ever beckoning signal and it is inevitable that we'll get there if we learn to read the signs. These come from inside we begin to notice in later life. They are called "intuition" at times, "inner self" and even "higher self." These terms all refer to the same living entity, that pulse that lies within and throbs for only us to hear. It's an exciting time when we do finally hear it, because it announces the birth of a new era. We are less motivated by what goes on outside of us and more concerned with the inner life. This is where we know the Gold is. This is our best possibility for future success. Without this inner guidance we are like a ship without a rudder. We have no direction; therefore, we have no purpose. And without purpose, where is our passion to be found? So why then do we keep looking out into the world for this purpose, when all the wisdom seekers and prophets through history have told us repeatedly that it lies within. There, inside our hearts, that blue ember of passion smolders for us alone. It holds our purpose and our future. It is a letter that needs to be opened. Like a piece of long overlooked Email, it waits for us to click on it and then fan it back into a flame. So get down there, and open your mail friend. You have Passion and Purpose waiting for you too. Finding Direction: Finding Passion Series – 2 of 3

Finding Direction: Finding Passion Series - 2 of 3

In order to find the right direction for ourselves, we have to do some soul searching. What is it I want to accomplish? Why? What kind of person do I want to become? Is it so weird to be in our thirties or forties and ask ourselves, "So, what do I want to be when I grow up?" What would make us jump out of bed excited and motivated to get the day started? Before getting into these big questions, we need to find out the roots behind our decisions. What motivates us to choose what we choose? If you could create anything you wanted without regards to money, time, or education... what would you do? What would you create if you could wave a magic wand and it would appear? What would you have? Think on that for awhile... anything at all.... Would you create vacations and the ability to travel all over the world? Would you create an education fund for your children? Would you create your dream home? Would you create a worry free retirement? Would you create a new wardrobe? Would you create music, books, movies, art, medicine? Write down a list of things. Don't worry about how far fetched they might sound. Just make a list of all the things you'd do and create if you had unlimited means to do so.Why would you create those things? Of all the things you would magically create, why would you want to create them? What's the root cause for you to want to create the list of things you'd create? What do you gain by creating those things? Do you want to create those things in order to be free? Secure? Independent? Understood? An entrepreneur? Loved? Creative? An entertainer? An adventurer? What is it you get to become by creating the things on your list? What kind of person would you be if you were the kind of person living out that list and creating those things?Moving further back into the roots of what you are or wish to become, if you could be anything, what would you want to be? Don't choose job descriptions, choose traits, aspects. What are you now? That's right, "what" would you want to be, not "who" would you want to be. If you died tomorrow, what would people say about you? Were you a healer? Brave? Organized? A great parent? An intellectual? A musician? An artist? Thoughtful? Kind? A supporter of dreams? What would you want them to say about you? How would you like to be seen? Sit with these thoughts for a bit and then write down a list for yourself starting with "I want to be..."As an example, my list narrowed down to this:I want to be....LovedA healerAn entertainerSecureAn adventurerA goddessIndependentAn explorerAn originalFreeA supporter of dreamAn inspirationUpon reflection, I can honestly say that every goal I've ever felt passionate about rooted from this list. Without realizing it, I had made most of my life choices from this list.By identifying your true motivations and desires, it becomes easier to find direction in life. Now we know where your goals come from. What's the root beneath your dreams? There is no right or wrong answers, just ideas at the core of you. We could probably analyze what in your past makes you want to become the things you put on your list. We could analyze how close you are to being all of the things you've listed. It's not important. What matters is that now you know what it is you're aspiring to become. Now it may seem to you that most of the things you had originally dreamed of creating were gifts you would share with others. You were going to put the kids through school. You were going to go on more vacations with your spouse. You were going to share your music with the world. You didn't think you were being selfish. And you're right. You were not being selfish. It's just that everything we do serves us in some way. Every gift we give is every bit a gift to ourselves also. You give the gift of a college education to your children and you give yourself the gift of being a good parent in your own eyes, or the gift of being a supporter of others in your own eyes. You get the gift of seeing yourself as a good person. Give the gift of music to the world and you get to see yourself as a musician. You get to be what it is that you want to be.By acknowledging to yourself how you want to be seen and what you want to be remembered for, you get in touch with your true purpose and what it is that drives you. Don't beat yourself up if you find that you want to be something that might sound stuck up or egotistical. It's okay to want to be liked, admired, respected. It's not like your root motivation is to be envied, or to be superior to everyone else. It's okay to want to be attractive, intelligent, prosperous. We've convinced ourselves somewhere along the way that it's somehow wrong or evil to want to be wonderful or to be successful. The truth is, most of us would give back in appreciation for our successes. Most of us would spend more time with our loved ones. Most of us would give to charity. Most of us would do more volunteer work if we really had the time and the means. Nobody ever writes down "I want to be... greedy, selfish, and spoiled." We want to be positive wonderful things so that we can share our positive wonderful gifts with each other. Give yourself permission to become whatever it is on your list that really resonates within your heart.Copyright 2003, Skye Thomas, Tomorrow's EdgeAbout The AuthorSkye Thomas began writing books and articles with an everyday practical approach to life in 1999 after twenty years of studying spirituality, metaphysics, astrology, personal growth, motivation, and parenting.
